Biography

Dionne graduated from the School of Resource & Environmental Management in 2012. Her Masters project was entitled "Two Approaches to Ecosystem-based Management in coastal British Columbia".

Before coming to SFU, Dionne was a writer-photographer with Frontline magazine (www.frontline.in) in Mumbai, India, from 2001-2008, reporting on human rights, social justice and environmental issues. Her book on communal violence in India, Scarred: Experiments with Violence in Gujarat, was published by Penguin India in January 2006. Her career in journalism started as an intern at The Times of India newspaper, and I stayed on to work there as a Metro Correspondent for four years. One of her most memorable years was a sabbatical as a Knight International Journalism Fellow at Stanford University 2008-09. Her educational background is very varied - a Masters degree in Development Studies at the London School of Economics in 1999-2000, a Diploma in Social Communications Media at the Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai in 1995 and a Bachelors degree in economics and commerce at the University of Mumbai.
