Hakai Network

The Hakai Network (www.sfu.ca/hakai) is an innovative, inter-disciplinary research team of conducting research, training, and educational initiatives in support of sustainability and conservation in Coastal British Columbia, Canada. With core funding from the Tula Foundation (www.tula.org), faculty, post-doctoral researchers and students collaborate with First Nations partners and researchers from other organizations on projects that focus on the sustainability, resilience and well-being of the people and ecosystems of British Columbia’s Central Coast. The Network was launched on September 14, 2010 through a partnership between SFU and the Tula Foundation. The Hakai Network works across many disciplines including marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecology, resource policy and planning, archaeology, and environmental and indigenous governance. The Hakai Beach Institute (www.hakai.org), a core partner of the Network, operates a research station and centre for teaching and meeting on Calvert Island of the Central Coast of British Columbia.
